Delivery Science Grants Program

The Delivery Science Grants Program fosters projects that have high impact on health care delivery in areas of strategic priority for Kaiser Permanente. Among the criteria for selecting projects for support from this program are:

  • Will the results change clinical practice or programmatic approaches?
  • Will the findings provide broadly useful lessons about processes of care or the use of new technology?
  • Will publication of the findings enhance Kaiser Permanente’s reputation in a high-priority area?

To be eligible for funding, projects must have the support and collaboration of clinical program leaders. Ideas are selected for development and funding with the input of executives of The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG). A proposed project must be co-led by a TPMG physician and a Division of Research scientist. The program supports projects of up to 24 months in length and up to $275,000 in direct costs.

Examples of projects include:

  • Video visits: Patient experiences
  • Pulmonary embolism in the emergency department: Real-time decision support algorithms
  • Lung nodules: Practice patterns and potential quality gaps
